Whispers of Longing

Careful what you wish for
Now I am scared to have it fulfilled
That time I walked on the most beautiful roads
and wished for a hand to hold
That time I saw those couples at the gate
Bidding a war with time
Refusing to say goodbye
That time I heard someone stayed out late
Because they had someone to spend
All the time in the world with
That time he held my hand
And our synced feet walked those roads
That time we closed our eyes
And something infinite passed our lips
Now I remember Patroclus crying when
Achilles held him with promises
And Elio breaking down when
Oliver accepted all of him
How Addie went centuries with no
Traces of her in anyone’s memory
Then three words were spoken
“I remember you.”
And she knew it was too good to be true
I feel her fear
I know the same truth
It’s the way fear lingered
Like they knew The Fault in their Stars
And it’s the way Hannah said
“Your name doesn’t belong on this list.”
I hold a list, a list of found and lost
I have found you now and for once
I want the lost column to be empty
Let’s just find each other
Find me every day, in the dark
In the silence, with a shot of spark
Find me staring and ask me, “What?”
And I’ll find you sleep talking,
Baring your thoughts.
The way we want to hold each other
But for entirely different reasons
And the way we dial, numbers
Faster than speed of light
Even though the sound of your
Voice had been gone for
Only a little while.
Isn’t it just a little more clear
Everyday, why the priest said,
“Love is awful.”
